Web users need to keep broadband safe

A top police officer in Scotland has urged broadband subscribers to ensure their wireless connections are well-protected.

Detective Inspector Keith McDevitt of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency claims people could find themselves implicated in fraudulent activity if they don’t secure their networks.

He said that "simple steps" can be taken to ensure a connection is not at risk, while adding that there could be serious consequences for people who take no notice of the warning.

It comes as the Queen during the announcement on the Digital Economy Bill commented that the Government will deliver universally available broadband in the UK by 2012 through a public fund, including a 50p per month tax from telephone lines.

It will also require internet service providers to act against online copyright infringement.ADNFCR-2683-ID-19464015-ADNFCR
