Web design ready for top speed

For UK firms who have not yet invested in web design, it would be wise to create a website so their internet presence is ready for universal broadband.

According to research conducted by broadband comparison website Top10.com, the UK’s slowest typical download speed can be found in the parish village of Farningham in Kent.

The location only has speeds of 1.3 megabits, which the website claims would need 45 minutes to download a music album.

This summer, the secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport, Jeremy Hunt, announced the government would try to achieve universal broadband speeds of 2Mbps within two years time.

Rowland O'Connor, editor of Broadband-Help.com, believes that "universal broadband access will stimulate digital media consumption - bringing jobs and increased prosperity to the UK".
