Demand for goods made by the UK's small and medium sized businesses is on the rise according to figures released by the CBI.
The institute's quarterly trends survey found that on balance over 10 percent of the 402 manufacturing firms surveyed reported a rise in total orders.
The report said that the relative weakness of sterling accounted for much of the improvement.
However, despite the increase in orders the survey also found that profit margins were being squeezed by rising commodity prices and that many firms still had trouble accessing credit.
