Online reputation is more important than many jobseekers might think.
That's according to a new report by Microsoft which claims that only around four in ten people thought the responsibility lay solely with them to protect their online reputations on social networking sites, blogging or other online activity.
This is a worrying figure as nearly half of HR managers said they'd rejected candidates because of their online profile.
More than six in ten of the managers also believe that judging someone by their online profile is the right thing to do.
Cliff Evans, head of privacy and security at Microsoft UK, said “Be your own publicist, taking a few simple steps today can help the build the online image you’ll need tomorrow.”
